About the GSHL

The Gentlemen's -Senior Hockey League originally started in 1987 as the Freeport Gentlemen's Hockey League by Jimmy Sullivan. The starting age back then was 35 yoa. There were four teams at the start, Brooklyn Torpedoes, Jamaica Hawks, Sands Point Tigers & Manhattan Arrows.

In the fourth year the New York Americans were established. We continued for a few more year and raised the age to 45 yoa. There was a 2 year hiatus and the Gentlemen's Senior Hockey League was started and the starting age was now 50. The teams were, New York Americans, Long Island Jesters, Long Islland Mustangs and Ryan's Express. This was started in 2008. The Syracuse Bulldogs were established and there were five teams. The  Long Island Mustangs disbanded and there were the four teams we have now. About 6 years ago, Tony Giordano an original member of the Torpedoes put together the Gentlemen's Hockey Diamond Division for the players of 60 yoa. Billy Conway another original member of the Jamaica Hawks started the 70 and over league on Wednesday's. So in all The Gentlemen's Senior Hockey League has been there for the older geration of players.
